This “lake” (now dry) is in Asia. Dried due to the diversion of water from the main source. In 1960, the Aral Sea was the fourth largest lake in the world, with approximately 68,000 km². In 1989, the sea split into two isolated deposits – North (small) and South (Large) Aral Sea. For 2003, the surface area Aral is approximately one quarter of the original and the amount of water – about 10%.
