The “living stone” of the seabed

Pyura chilensis is a very rare animal that lives on the seabed. Also it is known as “living stone”. At first glance, to distinguish it from a real stone is almost impossible. To our untrained eyes would find it quite difficult to find the difference. However, cutting the heavy armor that protects, signs of life will be found.

It is known that these rare animals have male and female sexual organs. They feed on organic substances in the water, which gets everything needed to live.

For some of us could be considered as freaks, but for many it is considered a real delicacy. It is known that there are special farms even in Japan to raise the Pyura chilensis.
