This mother gave her son the best year of her life before her inevitable death

Today we want to bring you one of the most shocking photo reports that is giving much to talk around the world. It is full of emotions, hard times, painful, many tears, but also of love and much affection. In the photographs we can see the story of the last year of life of Derek Madsen, a child with terminal cancer. He was always accompanied by his mother at all times.

The photographer Reneée Bayer was in charge of documenting the family from Sacramento, located in the USA, throughout the process that had to spend their families to encourage and help Derek in his last months of life, all because of her illness.

The incredible report won him a Pulitzer Prize in 2007. Here we leave you the heartbreaking photographs. We warn you that they are quite strong and can break the heart of more than one.

1. Here we see Derek and Cindy in the corridors of UC Davis Medical Center in California.

They were waiting for the results of a bone marrow examination to know if he was eligible for transplantation. In the photograph we can see how the mother distracted him to brighten his day, which gives very good results.

2. “I’ll do whatever it takes to make him happy, to make him smile,” said Cindy French.

This was what her mother expressed, and she wanted to fulfill until the last day of her son’s life. It should not be easy to keep your spirits knowing that one of the most precious beings in your life will abandon you at any time.

“I will carry your memory forever into my heart and remind others to give their time, energy and support to other families like ours,” Cindy said at the funeral.
